Flourish of trumpets; then hautboys.Enter the KING, DUKE
HUMPHREY OF GLOUCESTER, SALISBURY, WARWICK, and
CARDINAL BEAUFORT, on the one side; the QUEEN, SUFFOLK,
YORK, SOMERSET, and BUCKINGHAM, on the other
SUFFOLK. As by your high imperial Majesty I had in charge at my
depart for France, As procurator to your Excellence, To marry Princess
Margaret for your Grace; So, in the famous ancient city Tours, In presence
of the Kings of France and Sicil, The Dukes of Orleans, Calaber, Bretagne,
and Alencon, Seven earls, twelve barons, and twenty reverend bishops, I
have perform'd my task, and was espous'd; And humbly now upon my
bended knee, In sight of England and her lordly peers, Deliver up my title
in the Queen To your most gracious hands, that are the substance Of that
great shadow I did represent The happiest gift that ever marquis gave, The
fairest queen that ever king receiv'd. KING HENRY. Suffolk, arise.
Welcome, Queen Margaret I can express no kinder sign of love Than this
kind kiss. O Lord, that lends me life, Lend me a heart replete with
thankfulness! For thou hast given me in this beauteous face A world of
earthly blessings to my soul, If sympathy of love unite our thoughts.
QUEEN. Great King of England, and my gracious lord, The mutual
conference that my mind hath had, By day, by night, waking and in my
dreams, In courtly company or at my beads, With you, mine alder-liefest
sovereign, Makes me the bolder to salute my king With ruder terms, such
as my wit affords And over-joy of heart doth minister. KING HENRY. Her
sight did ravish, but her grace in speech, Her words y-clad with wisdom's
majesty, Makes me from wond'ring fall to weeping joys, Such is the
fulness of my heart's content. Lords, with one cheerful voice welcome my
love. ALL. [Kneeling] Long live Queen Margaret, England's happiness!
QUEEN. We thank you all. [Flourish] SUFFOLK. My Lord Protector, so it
please your Grace, Here are the articles of contracted peace Between our
sovereign and the French King Charles, For eighteen months concluded by
consent.

King Henry VI Part 2 eBook William Shakespeare

I have decided to read all of Shakespeare's theatrical works, and started recently with Henry VI part 2 and the Tempest. My thinking was I would start on the earliest, and the last works, and then meet in the middle to keep it interesting. This history play is one of his earliest works, if the experts are to be believed, and it shows in the writing to some extend. Not as advanced as Hamlet or Macbeth, or certainly the Tempest. But still, it's Shakespeare. Superb use of the language in the then evolving Early Modern English language. And how do you rate Shakespeare, really? I liked the plot. Henry VI Part 2 is bloody violent, with lots of heads rolling everywhere. And continued back-biting and dissension in the ranks of the upper classes, which are continually at war in France, if not with each other.

King Henry VI Part 2 eBook William Shakespeare Reviews

if you are a War of the Roses freak, the dialogue is breathtaking. huge battles are glossed over in favor of multiple "in your face" speeches.
I like this guy Shakespeare. I think he's gonna be big.
I suggest reading parts 1 and 2 first... Actually, I suggest reading all the historical plays of Shakespeare. They are worth it.
Continuation and end of parts I and II. spoiler alert! The good guys win. First real introduction to Duke of Glouster, later Richard III. His speeches and actions are a clue to what happend Richard III.
I find it engaging. It exemplifies the Bard's usual depth of insight into the human condition, often condensed into a line or couplet, and his humor never disappoints Since it's one of his earlier Chronicle History plays, readers my compare it unfavorably with his later better-known plays. But his craftmanship shines through. It probably helps that I am in a discussion group, where our conversation enhances the experience of Shakespeare
As if in prophecy of the coming tide of communism or the alt-right Shakespeare's Cade is a brilliant portrayal of leader of the fickle mob, slaying intellectuals and spewing out high ideals.
The horrors of the war of the roses, vaulting ambition of a series of dukes, a prayerful king and a businesswoman queen. This play has it all. It ends in such a depressing but true tone of the cyclical nature of the next series of murders and wars and for what!
